Project Overview
The MBTA Codman Yard, essential for the maintenance and storage of Red Line vehicles, is currently undergoing a transformation to enhance the facility. This upgrade aims to increase vehicle storage capacity and create a safer, more efficient work environment. The existing Motorpersons’ building, now in disrepair, will be completely reconstructed at a new location within the yard. Situated in the northeast section and accessible from Hillsdale Street, the new Motorpersons’ building will feature offices, locker rooms, a break room, and multiple storage areas. Additionally, the site improvements will include upgraded drainage and utilities, expanded parking, and landscaped areas.

Our solution
SMK was engaged as a Construction Strategist to support SGH with constructability, scheduling, and estimating during the design phases and will continue to provide support during the construction phase. Our role involved identifying and proposing solutions to mitigate issues related to schedule, cost, procurement viability, and overall buildability. After delivering the 30% construction cost estimate, SMK also conducted a cost savings analysis to help reduce both the overall project cost and schedule. We will maintain our support as the project progresses from design to construction.
