Founded in 2017, SMK Services, Inc. is a certified DBE/WBE firm specializing in consulting services in the heavy construction transportation industry. Our background includes over 32 years of construction experience with emphasis on complex civil and structural projects including roadway construction, sitework, traffic improvements, heavy lift accelerated bridge construction, bridge replacements over water, track and roadway, transit station construction, trackwork, and maintenance facilities. Our 23 years of MBTA Transit experience is inclusive of subway, commuter rail, ferries, parking structures, facilities and buses. Our eight years of MassDOT experience includes the Sumner Tunnel Rehabilitation project in Boston and the I-495, Industrial Ave project in Haverhill and Methuen.
Since SMK’s inception we have focused our efforts on the constructability of public transportation projects, utilizing our many years of General Contractor field experience in the heavy construction sector, and our various Subject Matter Experts, to successfully anticipate construction planning, staging, sequencing, phasing, estimating, and methodology. We are the rare team that grew up in the contracting industry but are now bringing our experience to the design community. By looking at issues and problems from a contractor’s perspective, we are able to add significant value to the project team.
We have a deep understanding of, and significant experience in, Contract Time Determinations, Bottoms Up Cost Estimates, Constructability, Document Control, Field Inspections, Safety Oversight, Risk and Value Engineering reviews for designers and owners. SMK’s ability to answer the question “how would a contractor look at this?” provides great value to designers and owners. We bring our knowledge of all construction management processes and techniques into the design and construction phase. Our schedules and estimates are produced with detailed considerations for construction and a focus on integration and alignment.
